What is Adi-Yoga?

Adi-yoga is a school for the preservation and dissemination of the authentic teaching of Tantrik Yoga. Tantrik Yoga is the View (philosophy), methods (practices) and fruit (results) of both inner and outer yogic exercises of body, breath and mind energy that are used for the purpose of enlightenment, the byproducts of which are radiant health, peace of mind, and a cohesive sense of joy. Thus, Adi-yoga is a system or school of Tantrik Yoga. Adi-Yoga is a Sanskrit term that means “the primordial state of inherent enlightenment that is experienced as the complete, immediate and limitless unity of Awareness and Energy, and the path to attain that original experience”.

Adiyoga is the state of our original enlightenment which is ever present, unlimited, and need not be created but only revealed. Adi-yoga is also the path by which we realize this inherent state of being.

Adi-Yoga contains teachings and practices from all 8 categories of methods found in Tantrik Yoga:

  1. Kundalini Hatha Yoga
  2. Deity Yoga
  3. Dream Yoga
  4. Yoga of Ejection of Consciousness or Munchara Yoga
  5. Sleep Yoga
  6. Consort Yoga
  7. Death Yoga
  8. Meditation

Adi-yoga is also a school for the preservation and dissemination of teachings in permaculture and sustainable living. The teachings of yoga are directly related to the proper care and cultivation of the earth and our natural resources. The development of the body and mind (the real practice of adi-yoga) leads to a desire for a lifestyle that is in harmony with nature. Thus, Adi-yoga, located in the beautiful mountains of Northeastern Thailand, is a living example of a fully sustainable, organic, natural community designed via the principles of permaculture. In the endeavor of teaching permaculture, Adi-yoga works in conjunction with Earthsafe, a Thai initiative that is dedicated to the teaching, preservation and practices of permaculture, sustainability and natural farming.
